Welcome!
About BandGeeksOnline.comDevoted to the exchange of links, ideas, and discussions, concerning concert band music, musicians, and organizations.
Check out our composers page, featuring John Philip Sousa and Karl L. King, and Henry Fillmore. They are complete with some suggested links to learn more about these gentlemen, as well as some CD’s that are particular favorites of mine. I will be adding many more composers to this section, so stay tuned. If there is a favorite band composer of yours that I have not included, please let me know, or better yet, write an article about her or him and I’ll publish it right here on this very website. We pay zero cents per word for journalistic efforts but you’ll have the admiration and respect of all your fellow band geeks.
Frederick Fennell
ConductorsFew conductors have had the effect upon band music that Dr. Frederick Fennel had. This month we feature 9 of his best CD’s at our shop. He did many others, but the Eastman Wind Ensemble recordings hold a special place in my heart.
Dr. Frederick Fennell was born July 2, 1914 in Cleveland, Ohio, and passed away on December 7, 2004. He studied at the Eastman School of Music on the University of Rochester campus, earning a Bachelor of Music degree in 1937 and a Master of Music degree two years later. He became a member of the Eastman conducting faculty in 1939, founded the Eastman Wind Ensemble in 1952, and received an Honorary Doctorate from Eastman in 1988.
